Clean Neighborhoods
Great Indy Cleanup
Program Overview
Work with your neighbors to clean up public spaces.
KIB’s Great Indy Cleanup (GIC) is an anti-litter, community-empowering program done in partnership with the City of Indianapolis.
We provide resources to people who want to lead the charge against heavy litter, illegal dumping, and debris in the public spaces in their neighborhood. By coordinating a community cleanup, you can make a visible difference and inspire your neighbors to make a difference, too!
Together, we collect nearly 1 million pounds of litter each year from over 300+ cleanups. Your actions matter… a lot. Let’s get to work!

Organize a Great Indy Cleanup
You bring the helping hands, and we provide:
- Cleanup supplies: Trash bags and gloves (litter grabbers and reflective vests can be borrowed).
- A dumpster: April through October, dumpsters can be requested on a first come, first served basis for community cleanups every weekend. A city garbage compactor truck can also be requested on Saturdays during the cleanup season.
- Media resources: Need flyers? We have created flyer templates to help you publicize your event.
KIB’s logo can be found HERE.
Fill out an application online at the link above, give us a call, or stop by the office.
Note: The resources for this program, including the disposal of the collected trash, are donated. These resources are NOT to be used for personal trash or yard waste. Please help us reserve these donations for communities in need!
Become a Focus Neighborhood
We work up to four Indy communities every year to highlight their cleanup efforts and lend extra support for beautification. These events take place April through October.
Through a community-led process, our staff helps residents, volunteers, and community stakeholders organize a large cleanup with the goal to make the biggest impact possible while inspiring others.
Applications will be available every year in the winter on our website.
