Ruckle Street Pocket Park
By: Emily Wood
2927 PARK AVENUE, 46205
This area formerly lacked open greenspace for residents to participate in recreation activities, host neighborhood and family gatherings and ultimately have immediate access for improvements in their everyday quality of life.
IMPORTANCE OF THIS PROJECT
This project will accomplish:
- Including community building initiatives
- Increasing recreational space for its residents
- Improving the aesthetics of the neighborhood
- Creating a tangible place for residents to enjoy and help foster a sense of community pride
DESIGN PROCESS
KIB will work with Mapleton-Fall Creek Development Corporation (MFCDC) to build the first of three pocket parks in area, at 3023 Ruckle Street. The Ruckle Street Park will include a series of linear greenspaces that will span from Central Avenue to Park Avenue. A curvilinear sidewalk will tie these spaces together and provide access to the park’s amenities. The western leg of this park will connect into the existing Fall Creek Gardens – Urban Growers Resource Center. KIB has assisted with the installation of native trees, shrubs and perennials, built benches for the site, installed a paver plaza and provided a green roof for the park shelter.
WORK STATUS
This work is complete. Stop by to check out the new greenspace!
