Celebrating a year of impact

We’ve been making our city cleaner, greener, and friendlier since 1976. With the support of our volunteers, advocates and partners, we continue to accomplish extraordinary things together. This year was no exception!

• We planted over 3,000 trees throughout Marion County. To date, we’ve added 50,000+ KIB-planted trees to the urban canopy. These trees are thriving, growing and making our city cleaner and greener.
• 12,804 volunteers worked alongside our team to pick up litter, plant native plants and trees, and build new greenspaces. That’s a 175% increase from last year!
• Our 1,000+ Adopt-A-Block Captains helped to maintain over 260+ linear miles of blocks, making it one of the largest programs of it’s kind in the country!
• Our Clean Neighborhoods team collected nearly 800,000 pounds of trash and led over 300 cleanups in Indianapolis.
• Our team maintained 38.72 acres of restored habitat. Along with the help of our Urban Naturalists, we worked together to create new guidelines for habitat restoration monitoring and maintenance.
• New research proved that the KIB’s work is helping to make Indianapolis safer. A study by the University of Michigan School of Public Health discovered a 12% reduction in gun violence within a half-mile radius of KIB GreenSpaces. Studies like this prove that the work we’re doing really makes a difference —sometimes in more ways than we realize.

Just like ecosystems in nature, communities that are connected and support one another become stronger and more resilient. None of our work would be possible without YOU.
