Millersville at Fall Creek Valley
By: Emily Wood
WINDRIDGE/EMERSON WAY AND 56TH STREET
KIB worked with the Millersville/Fall Creek Valley Neighborhood Association to beautify the commercial areas of Windridge / Emerson Way and 56th Street.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS PROJECT
This project will accomplish:
- Beautifying commercial areas to enhance the environment
- Helping to create and build pride in the community
- Sustainability by using native trees and plants
DESIGN PROCESS
We planted 38 trees including, oak, sugar maple, bald cypress, ginkgo and honey locust. These trees were planted along several area streets, green spaces and medians.
In addition, we installed several tons of decorative river rock, 5 large concrete planters and several hundred shrubs, perennials and grasses in two large traffic islands. The Millersville group has done a wonderful job of maintaining their plantings through regular weeding and watering sessions. This project has helped them build pride in their community and build capacity within their organization.
