On Saturday, August 16, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB), in partnership with the Mozel Sanders Foundation, celebrated the grand opening of a new AES Indiana Project GreenSpace with a lively and welcoming community event.

Around 50 neighbors gathered to enjoy music from a live DJ, a bounce house for the kids, rock painting, and a free produce giveaway. The event created a festive, family-friendly atmosphere and marked the beginning of a new chapter for the neighborhood.

The Mozel Sanders Foundation, best known for its annual Thanksgiving meal program that serves tens of thousands, has been a cornerstone of service in Central Indiana for more than 50 years. Its mission is simple but powerful: don’t look down on someone unless you’re picking them up. The Foundation continues that legacy year-round by fighting hunger, supporting youth, and building stronger neighborhoods through hands-on outreach.

This new GreenSpace is a reflection of that shared mission. Designed with input from neighbors and built with long-term care in mind, it will serve as a welcoming gathering place for the community for years to come.

KIB’s AES Indiana Project GreenSpace program transforms underused land into vibrant, sustainable public spaces. From native gardens and orchards to community parks and outdoor classrooms, these projects bring people together and help neighborhoods thrive.

The event was more than a celebration, it was a moment of connection, pride, and possibility.
