FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Victor Oladipo teams up with Mayor Joe Hogsett to engage Indianapolis residents
New 'It’s My City' public service announcement encourages residents to get involved
for the betterment of Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS – In a new, It’s My City public service announcement released today, Mayor Joe Hogsett and Victor Oladipo – the other Mayor of Indianapolis – have joined forces to inspire residents to help shape a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful city. In the ad, Mayor Hogsett and Oladipo each reimagine the iconic “Hudnut Hook,” a PSA that featured four-term Mayor Bill Hudnut “putting litter in its place” and has come to define civic engagement in Indianapolis. Playing off Oladipo’s signature line, the two proclaim “this is our city,” and call on residents to get involved in shaping a more beautiful Indianapolis.
In 2018, the City is making significant investments in the betterment of Indianapolis neighborhoods. Indy Parks and Rec will plant 1,500 trees in City-managed parks and greenways. The Department of Business and Neighborhood Services will continue trash sweeps, in addition to ramping up targeted outreach and education in areas of Indianapolis most plagued by litter and illegal dumping. The Department of Public Works will continue to provide resources that support neighborhood clean-up efforts, including Keep Indianapolis Beautiful's Great Indy Cleanups that will begin in April. The new PSA aims to build upon these efforts by inspiring residents to do their part.
The three-year It’s My City campaign is targeted at business owners, individuals and neighborhoods, and schools – providing education, access to resources and simple, actionable steps that each entity can take to improve the city. The initiative kicked off in 2017 with the “Year of Clean,” focused on neighborhood clean-ups and an anti-litter campaign. On Monday, Mayor Hogsett joined partners in the It’s My City Coalition and students from Paramount School of Excellence to kick off the “Year of Green,” dedicated to expanding and improving community greenspaces. 2019 will be the “Year of Beautiful.”
