Trees, Green, and Deep Breathing
On October 20, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will host the 2016 RUN(317) season finale. Like KIB, the RUN(317) series highlights everything we love everything about the (317). Three cheers for all of this year's participants!
I am a runner. I have run races and trained in different cities around the world. I experienced all kinds of running environments - smog of Beijing, rain in Austria, the crisp air of San Francisco. I can say that it is when I am running in a city that has trees and greenspace or out on trails, that I really celebrate the ability to run.
It is because I am a runner that I love that Keep Indianapolis Beautiful was asked to partner with Vision Event Management on their RUN(317) race series. We originally hosted the inaugural race in 2014 as an opportunity to encourage people to tour the KIB building, become acquainted with Fountain Square, and share the benefits of trees and greenspaces along the way. KIB literally post signs along the route that showcase the benefits of "green" to the air that runners breathe in their 3.17 miles around the neighborhood. When the race management company wanted to expand the race to three events around the city and now five, we asked that KIB still host the final race ... a save the best for last kind of thing. On a crisp, fall evening in October, it is possible to take advantage of trees, green, and deep breathing through a beautiful race, in an historic neighborhood, with a great organization. Make Indy clean and green and take advantage of running in the city.
Not a runner? Join the party next year by signing up to volunteer! We'll need your help keeping (317) beautiful! Volunteer positions include Packet Pick-Up, Finish Line, Course, and the Water Station.
