WEST PARK
Creating a Destination
Location: 1129 South Tremont Ave.
Project Description: Keep Indianapolis Beautiful worked with the West Indianapolis Development Corporation (WIDC) and the West Morris Street Free Methodist Church and other community stakeholders to create a gateway and beautify an existing park. We worked landscape architect Meg Storrow of SKA who developed a masterplan for the site and landscape architect in training, Brian Main who revised and expand SKA’s plans. In the spring, we planted 13 red maple trees, 6 redbud and 5 serviceberry trees, shrubs and removed 4 large yews. Through the Lilly Day of Service We expanded this project by installing a crushed limestone path, created several benches with existing limestone blocks and planted 5 additional serviceberry and 6 redbud trees. This project succeeded in connecting community members to each other, local community organizations and an expanded neighborhood park.
