WESLEY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Bishop’s Garden at Wesley United Methodist Church

3425 West 30th Street, 46222, Eagledale:

This is the creation of a peace garden with multiple amenities on land adjacent to the church, which will be open to the public. They have a number of activities they want to promote in this space. They want to develop the area closer to the church building into an amphitheater, a gathering place for music and social events and to differentiate that area from the area used as play fields. In 2010, volunteers from Aldi and M&I Bank started the deconstruction and reconstruction of the sunken patio into the amphitheater, and a group of 12 dedicated volunteers from the church spent 8 HOT Wednesday evenings over the summer putting the final touches on it.

Lilly volunteers planted the long buffer between the large open area (to be used for play fields) and Tibbs Street to keep the kids safe from traffic (also done in 2010).

New for 2011, a gazebo will be placed so that it can provide shade for parents while children play and also be used for weddings. A children’s vegetable garden will be planted within the fenced-in playground area, or nearby. And the IndyGo bus stop at the corner of their property will be landscaped. 2011 will be the 2nd year of this multi-year project to improve the unusable open space on the north side of the building.
