Occupation:

I am an Independent Tupperware Consultant.

How long have you been volunteering with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful?
I began volunteering with KIB about three years ago. I am one of three volunteers who work behind the scenes entering volunteer information into the KIB Volunteer Database.

Why have you incorporated service into your personal objectives?
Stewardship is an ethic that embodies responsible planning and management of resources, and is linked to the concept of sustainability. We are all stewards of this Earth, which we hold in trust for our children, grandchildren and future generations not yet born.

And stewardship provides benefits for today also. Cleaning up the litter on the block or planning a tree will lift your sprits and contribute to healthier, stronger, safer neighborhoods where businesses and families thrive.

Why do you choose to volunteer with KIB?
I love doing many of the same things KIB does as projects – painting houses, planting trees and flowers, growing vegetable gardens. And I find deep satisfaction in knowing so many others in the community also enjoy these things.

What impact do you feel that the work with KIB has on the community?
“Building community and transforming public spaces through aesthetic and environmental improvements” is the mission statement posted on the KIB website.

The project volunteer sheets I see each week tell me KIB is operating exactly on mission. They tell me stories of community building by church groups, neighborhood associations, professional associations, school groups, companies and individuals. The titles of the projects tell me about improvements such as gardens installed, trees planted, and cleanup days. I myself would have no place to recycle plastic, glass or metal waste without KIB. Every time I travel I70 the planting that have been installed at exchanges tell me we care about our city. Isn’t that cool?

Why would you encourage others to volunteer with KIB?
Simply show up, work hard for a few hours, and have fun. When you are done, you will be able to see what you’ve accomplished. As an added benefit, you will meet great people in the process.
