The following statement can be attributed to Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. regarding the proposed development at Haverstick Road and 86th Street:
“The staff of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) has been following the proposed commercial development on the Haverstick Woods property near 86th Street and Keystone Avenue. We look forward to learning about the plan at the October 4 public meeting.
We hope the plan includes comprehensive preservation of the area’s large trees, consideration of the impact greenspace has on residential quality of life, and adherence to the treatment of trees under the Consolidated Zoning & Subdivision Ordinance created by the Indy Rezone project.
As an organization that strives to grow the city’s tree canopy through urban forestry, KIB encourages the potential developers to maximize the protection of mature trees. If the developers plant new trees to mitigate loss, we recommend a tree survivability warranty of at least three years. Our experience with a three-year maintenance plan has produced survivability rates of over 90%.
To learn more and express your opinion about the Haverstick Woods project, please attend the City of Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development meeting on October 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the public assembly room of the City County Building.”
