Can caps and tops to plastic and glass containers be recycled at the Recycle Indianapolis locations?
No, caps and tops to glass and plastic containers cannot be recycled at the Recycle Indianapolis locations. Please remove these tops before dropping off your recyclables.
Does the Recycle Indianapolis locations accept cardboard for recycling?
No, the Recycle Indianapolis containers do not accept cardboard, or cereal box-type paperboard. Please visit KIB's Recycle and Reuse Guide to find locations in Marion County that accept these materials for recycling.
When I bring my recyclables in bags or boxes, can these items also be thrown into the Recycle Indianapolis containers?
No, the Recycle Indianapolis containers do not accept cardboard boxes, plastic bags or paper bags, even if they are used to transport recyclables. Although most plastic bags are recyclable, we ask residents not to place them in the Recycle Indianapolis containers - they cause damage to the sorting equipment. Can plastic bags that are #1 and #2 plastic be placed in the Recycle Indianapolis containers?
No. Alhough the Recycle Indianapolis program accepts #1 and #2 food and beverage containers, the program does not accept #1 and #2 plastic bags, since they can damage the sorting equipment. All Marion County Kroger stores and Wal-Mart locations, however, do accept ALL plastic grocery bags for recycling inside their stores.
Where can I recycle phone books?
Rock-Tenn Recycling & Trinity Recycling both accept phone books for recycling year-round. You can find information on these two companies by visiting KIB's Recycle and Reuse Guide. Currently, KIB has partnered with AT&T to offer additional phone book recycling drop-off locations. Click Here to view these additional sites available through December 15th.
Can I take office paper and junk mail to Recycle Indianapolis locations?
Although the Recycle Indianapolis bins do not accept office paper and junk mail, most of these sites also host the bright green and yellow PaperRetriever.com paper collection bins, which accept paper, catalogs, magazines, all junk mail as well as newspapers. Does the City of Indianapolis offer curbside recycling?
YES, curbside recycling is available to all single family residences in Marion County, and includes a small monthly fee. To sign up for curbside recycling or to inquire about cost, call the Mayor’s Action Center at 327-4MAC (4622).
