Trees for Tomorrow

Since 1990, over 12,000 trees have been planted in Indianapolis through Trees for Tomorrow.  This program started as a partnership between Indianapolis Power & Light Company and Indy Parks. Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. joined the partnership in 1998.

Because of the success and strength of these relationships, IPL, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and Indy Parks created a formal partnership in 2005.

IPL provides the funding for the trees, as well as program promotion; Indy Parks maintains the trees—ensuring viability and survivability; and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. manages the community tree plantings-- providing the staff and volunteers to plant the trees.

The purpose of Trees for Tomorrow is to…

  • Significantly increase plantings of public trees in Indianapolis (and surrounding IPL service areas;

  • Provide care to those trees to enhance their longevity;

  • Educate the public about the importance of trees to our quality of life; planting the right tree in the right place.

Over 500 mature trees were planted through Trees for Tomorrow in 2005. Trees were planted in local parks and along thoroughfares.
