Adopt-a-Block
(formerly known as Operation My Town)

The Adopt-A-Block program is an on-going
block beautification program with a goal of involving more people
to help keep their neighborhoods clean, safe and beautified!

We provide each block coordinator with a cleanup kit including a broom, shovel, bags, gloves, a litter grabber, heavy duty dust pan, and a bucket.  On an annual basis, Adopt-A-Block will provide a supply of gloves and trash bags to aid in your cleanup activities!

Blocks are monitored and scored monthly April through October, and we reward blocks that have superior year-end scores with flowers, mini-grants and other goodies to help with block beautification!

Monitoring is done monthly using a 1-3 scale with 1 being no litter, and 3 being extremely littered.

All blocks will have the opportunity to receive free native shade trees for their block through Keep Indianapolis Beautiful’s NeighborWoods program.

Roundtable workshops and the opportunity to build relationships with the Steering Committee representatives provide added value to Adopt-A-Block Coordinators.

Yes! I want to become a Block Coordinator!

Program History
Adopt-A-Block (formerly known as Operation My Town ) was formed in 2002 to answer a need to bring litter abatement and prevention down to the smallest unit—the block. This program began as the brainchild of City Councilor “King Ro” Conley as an attempt to get citizens and neighborhood people involved in keeping the city clean from a platform they were very familiar with—their own streets and alleys!
