Urban Naturalists 2018

Meet the 2018 Urban Naturalists!

Catch the #UNats outdoors this summer as they maintain and manage Indianapolis’ green stormwater infrastructure. You may see their bright, safety green shirts doing any of the following duties:

  • Maintaining stormwater planter beds (planning, design, and plant installation)
  • Watering, mulching, mapping, and pruning perennial plants
  • Weeding, litter clean-up, and community engagement
  • Allison Bryant
    Allison Bryant

    Allison is a senior at Marian University majoring in biology with a concentration in environmental science and double minoring in Spanish and global studies.  Along with being an Urban Naturalist, Allison works at the Zion Nature Center and Marian’s Nina Mason Pulliam Ecolab.  Hobbies include hiking, reading, writing, and traveling.  Allison is interested in pursuing a future in land management or field research.

    Nickoulas Cooper-Garcia

    Nick is a 2018 graduate of Purdue with a degree in Environmental Biology. His undergraduate research involved the study of how chickadee vocals influenced social systems. In his free time he enjoys camping, fishing, and swimming. He plans on pursuing a career in environmental restoration and finishing the Harry Potter book series this summer.

    Sydney DeLong

    Sydney graduated in May from Indiana University with degrees in Journalism and Political Science. Last summer, she was the communications intern at Indiana Wildlife Federation and has a great passion for environmental policy. In the future, Sydney hopes to continue working for the betterment of the environment and creating positive change at a nonprofit organization.

    Brandon Garver

    Brandon is a senior attending Purdue University majoring in Plant Sciences with a minor in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. On campus he is the President of Botany Club and is involved with many different sustainability organizations at Purdue. After college Brandon plans on joining the Peace Corps to give back and to travel abroad. After his service he hopes to find a job in the Environmental sector, hopefully to leave the world better than he found it. In his free time, he enjoys finding new music and learning about anything and everything.

    Mackenzie Knotts

    Mackenzie will be completing her Professional Masters of Science at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in December, where she is studying Conservation Biology. Mackenzie enjoys camping, reading, and recently started scuba diving. In the future, Mackenzie hopes to work for the National Park System conducting habitat restoration.

    Morgan Murray

    Morgan is an upcoming junior at Taylor University, where she is studying Sustainable Development with a concentration in Public and Environmental Health. In addition, she is an Act Six student which is a program focused on equipping college students to become future urban and community leaders. In the future, Morgan aspires to be an Environmental Health Specialist or working for an environmentally conscious company/organization.

    Margaux Zook

    Margaux is a junior at Purdue University studying Environmental and Ecological Engineering. Her hobbies include playing the banjo, watching Jurassic Park, cooking, and spending time outside with friends and family. In the future, she plans to own chickens and share the knowledge she has gained as a UN!
