Meet the 2017 Urban Naturalists!

Catch the #UNats outdoors this summer as they maintain and manage Indianapolis’ green stormwater infrastructure. You may see their bright, safety green shirts doing any of the following duties:

  • Maintaining stormwater planter beds (planning, design, and plant installation)
  • Watering, mulching, mapping, and pruning perennial plants
  • Weeding, litter clean-up, and community engagement
  • Ashley Bowens
    Ashley Bowens

    Ashley is a student of IUPUI studying Environmental Science. After graduation, she plans on working for the Peace Corps and then finding a job related to environmental sustainability. Her interests include yoga, meditation, cooking vegetarian meals, and outdoor activities like hiking, biking, swimming, and camping. Her ultimate goal would be to retire and live somewhere warm, off the grid, and in a community with her significant other.

    Ellen Potocsnak

    Ellen is a rising senior at Indiana University majoring in Environmental Management and minoring in Urban Planning and Marketing. On campus Ellen is the co-president of Nourish International and captain of her Little 500 bike team!  Previously Ellen has interned at Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation in Dundee, Illinois and Project Amazonas in Santa Cruz, Peru. She has a love for bikes, traveling, and farmers markets.

    Madeline Mohrman

    Maddy is a graduate of DePauw University with a degree in Environmental Biology. Prior to KIB, she interned with the Indiana Recycling Coalition and DePauw’s Office of Sustainability. Maddy loves being outdoors and working with plants. In the future she plans to pursue further education in Environmental Policy and Sustainable Development.

    Marissa Byers

    Marissa is an upcoming senior at Butler University, where she is obtaining degrees in Environmental Studies and Spanish. In addition to her work as an Urban Naturalist, Marissa has interned for Butler’s Center for Urban Ecology and the Illinois State Senate Communications Staff. She is interested in pursuing a career in environmental education after college

    Molly McMath

    Molly will be a junior at Indiana University this fall, where she is studying Environmental Management and Law and Public Policy through the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. In her free time, Molly enjoys running on the Monon, exploring new places, and reading good books.
