Great Indy Cleanup (GIC)

See what a difference you, your neighbors, and a weekend can make.

  • Why litter is everyone's problem
    Why litter is everyone's problem

KIB’s Great Indy Cleanup is an anti-litter program in partnership with the City of Indianapolis designed to assist individuals and community groups combat heavy litter and debris that has accumulated in public spaces such as streets, alleys, greenspaces and waterways. Through coordinating a community cleanup you can make a visible difference in your neighborhood, and get to know neighbors that wish to make a difference too!

The 2016 Great Indy Cleanup season was a huge success, with 366 community cleanups accomplished!  Over 2.1 million pounds of litter and illegal dumping was collected by 12,500 volunteers—thank you to everyone that participated, especially the hundreds of residents that coordinated and lead cleanups in their community.  Everyone at KIB sincerely appreciates all you do to keep Indianapolis beautiful!

  • From April through October, residents may apply for a community cleanup through KIB. You bring the helping hands, and KIB will provide a dumpster, trash bags, and gloves! Dumpsters are available for community cleanups every weekend from April to October.

The resources for this program are donated, including the disposal of the collected trash.  These donated resources are NOT to be used for personal trash or yard waste.  Please help us protect these donations for communities in need!

If you’d like help coordinating your cleanup or have questions, please contact Allie Kast or call 317-264-7555.

  • How can your neighborhood be selected as a Focus Neighborhood

Become a focus neighborhood! Through the Great Indy Cleanup program, KIB works with two Indianapolis communities to highlight their beautification efforts. These events take place in the month of April and one in the month of October.
Through a community-led process we will organize large scale clean ups with engaged neighborhoods, while working alongside residents, volunteers and community stakeholders. Our goal is to make the biggest impact in our city during the 2019 Great Indy Cleanup’s program season– from April through October. This is your opportunity to spur change in your community with the help of KIB and the City of Indianapolis.

To be considered for a 2019 April or October event, please complete this application. The application process may include an interview on site with KIB Staff and if chosen as a finalist, to share your application during a brief presentation open to the public to hear your ideas to improve the quality life in your community.
The application will be available in July. If you have questions, contact Allie Kast.
