Youth Employment Options are Available with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful

February 20, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS – (February 20, 2012) Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) is seeking applications for its 2012 Youth Tree Team. Deadline to apply for “the world’s greatest summer job” is February 28.

The KIB Youth Tree Team is a paid 9-week summer program that employs Indianapolis high school students and young adults to preserve and maintain the trees that are planted through KIB’s NeighborWoods program—an initiative to plant 100,000 trees in Marion County. The team spends their weeks watering, mulching, and staking trees; they also spend one day a week on enrichment activities (learning about financial responsibility from a bank manager, touring the IMA, or rafting on the White River).

More than 150 area high school students have already signed up for the Youth Tree Team Challenge Day at the KIB headquarters (1029 Fletcher Ave.) on Saturday, March 3 where they will compete in obstacles that test their willingness to work hard and get their hands dirty—activities will vary from water bucket slaloms, mulch races, calisthenics, and much more. Youth will be competing for 65 coveted spots on the 2012 team—with many youth returning from year to year.

Check-in for Challenge Day will begin at 9:30AM on Saturday March 3. Application deadline to participate in Challenge Day, and be considered for the program ends on February 28. To apply, or learn more visit www.kibi.org/youth_tree_team.

This program is made possible by generous support from the Glick Family Fund, Lilly Foundation, ERM Foundation, and the City of Indianapolis.

Beyond Youth Tree Team, KIB has a number of volunteer opportunities for anyone interested in helping us keep Indianapolis beautiful, visit www.kibi.org to learn more.
