FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

32nd ANNUAL MONUMENTAL AFFAIR AWARDS ADDS AFTERNOON SEMINARS ON GREEN BUILDING PRACTICES IN INDIANA

Seminar provides continuing education credits for architects, certified professional service marketers.

INDIANAPOLIS – The 32nd annual Monumental Affair Awards on Wednesday, Nov. 18 celebrates the best of Indianapolis design, development, construction, engineering, public art and innovative reuse. This year, three one-hour seminars have been added to provide more in-depth discussion about green building practices in Indiana. Seminar topics include:

  •  “Thriving Within Our Means” by William Brown, AIA, LEED AP, director of sustainability at Indiana University.
  • “What Can Good Policy Do For Sustainability Efforts” a panel discussion with panelists Karen Haley, director of SustainIndy, the City of Indianapolis Office of Sustainability, Jesse Kharbanda, executive director of the Hoosier Environmental Council, and Paul Jones, attorney, Ice Miller.
  •   Round table discussions featuring leading sustainable projects including the Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. and Nature Conservancy buildings and the Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene & Marilyn Glick.

The seminars will be held from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 110 W. Washington St. Registration for the afternoon workshops is $50 ($30 for Monumental Affair sponsors).

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is awarding three continuing education credits to qualified participants. The Society for Marketing Professional Services is providing three continuing education credits to Certified Professional Services Marketers. To sign up for the workshops, visit http://www.kibi.org/ma_workshop.

The Monumental Affair Awards dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m., at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, sponsored by Ice Miller.

In line with this year’s theme: “Innovation in Indy,” the program includes the new, “(re)thINk” award, juried by the U.S. Green Building Council and honoring sustainable design and construction.

Dr. Randall Howard, Vice President for Business Affairs and Treasurer at Ball State University will speak about the university’s geothermal project, which is the largest of its kind in the U.S. Dr. Howard will talk about the project’s financial and environmental impacts, and how the project has elevated Ball State to a nationally recognized leadership position in sustainability.

Seminar tickets are $50 and dinner tickets are $80 each or $600 for a table of eight. To register for the workshop or purchase tickets or tables for the awards dinner, contact Laura Fox at lfox@kibi.org or 317-264-7555 ext. 100 or visit http://www.kibi.org/ma_event.

Proceeds from the Monumental Affair seminar and awards dinner benefit Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB). KIB is a nonprofit that unites people to build community and transform public spaces through aesthetic and environmental improvement.

Ice Miller’s Green Industry Initiative is a multidisciplinary service area that counsels clients in sustainable development, clean technology, green house gas emissions and energy management. Its attorneys and professionals have experience in environmental law, tax credits, venture financing arrangements, real estate, energy, and intellectual property.

A Monumental Affair is also supported by the City of Indianapolis. More than 30 years ago, the City’s Department of Metropolitan Development started the event and remains involved in its planning and jurying.

Volunteers from the Indiana chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services help plan and implement the awards program.
