More than 200 Employees Plant Trees in Brookside Park
Indianapolis – More than 200 Katz, Sapper & Miller employees are taking part in a major beautification project along the Pogue’s Run corridor on the city’s Near Eastside today. As part of the Indianapolis-based accounting firm’s annual volunteer day of community service, and in partnership with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB), this year’s project will support the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Legacy Project’s revitalization efforts for the Near Eastside.
Beginning at 8:30 a.m., Katz, Sapper & Miller volunteers will gather to plant more than 150 trees in Brookside Park, located along the Pogue’s Run corridor. The trees will count toward the “2,012 by 2012” tree planting initiative, a partnership between KIB and the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee, with the intent to plant 2,012 trees on the Near Eastside by the 2012 Super Bowl. Friday’s project marks a significant milestone in the “2,012 by 2012” initiative with the 1,000th tree planted. The trees planted will also serve to aid KIB with its NeighborWoods program, which has a goal of planting 100,000 trees in Indianapolis by 2017.
“Through Katz, Sapper & Miller’s annual Community Day, our employees are able to give something back to the city we live in, to an area of need,” said David Resnick, managing partner of Katz, Sapper & Miller. “This year, we are most proud to support the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee’s Legacy Project to help make a lasting, positive impact on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis.”
Tony Mason, senior vice president for the Host Committee added, “This partnership between KIB, Katz, Sapper & Miller and our neighbors on the Near Eastside demonstrates the commitment and dedication that we have to revitalizing this area. Each mound of dirt turned today represents the time, energy and fortitude of a caring community.”
Katz, Sapper & Miller volunteers will also be assisting the John H. Boner Community Center with assembly of the center's annual fundraising materials, as well as helping Westminster Neighborhood Ministries, who assists families in need of food and health services, to assemble greeting cards neighborhood children have designed to raise funds for the organization.
“We are so pleased to once again partner with Katz, Sapper & Miller on a transformative project,” said David Forsell, President of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. “The work done today will continue our work to transform a historic parkway back to its roots, removing invasive species and planting new trees to encourage wildlife to come back to the neighborhood.”
