St. Clair Place Takes Home 2011 Monumental Affair Award

November 11, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS - (November 11, 2011) The 34th annual A Monumental Affair Awards were presented Wednesday night at the Indiana Roof Ballroom downtown Indianapolis. The St. Clair Place Neighborhood Revitalization, a part of the Super Bowl 2012 Legacy Project, was awarded the coveted Monumental Award as the most significant project of the year.

The St. Clair Place Neighborhood Revitalization project is transforming a 155-acre urban neighborhood once dominated by over 40% property vacancy into a diverse, thriving and mixed-income community. To date, $30 Million dollars in investments have been secured and over 100 units of housing have been transformed. This 10th Street corridor now stands as a model example of sustainable street design and neighborhood infrastructure and tackles critical urban storm water management issues. Housing, across a spectrum of types and costs, has created a visually appealing, sustainably designed community knitted into this historic neighborhood.

“The revitalization of St. Clair Place Neighborhood is monumental,” said David Forsell, President of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. “The transformation that is taking place is more than design, or development; it is truly changing the way communities live through the built environment. I can think of no better representation of a monumental project than that of the renewal of St. Clair Place Neighborhood.”

The awards represent the most significant visual and physical enhancements in Marion County. Chosen by an impartial jury of community and professional leaders, the Monumental Award is the highest award of distinction and is selected from the honor award winners in each category.
Other top award winners included:

• Architecture – Lutheran Child and Family Services
• Community Development – St. Clair Place
• Construction – Indiana Convention Center, Phase V Expansion
• Downtown Development – Indiana Convention Center, Phase V Expansion
• Engineering – Indiana Convention Center, Phase V Expansion
• Innovative Reuse – Herron High School Expansion, Phase II
• Interior Design – Indiana Historical Society
• Landscape Architecture – White Art Plaza

The awards program and event—presented by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. with the support of the Indiana Chapter of Society for Marketing Professional Services and the City of Indianapolis—raises funding for Keep Indianapolis Beautiful’s mission to unite people to build community and transform public spaces through aesthetic and environmental improvement. Title sponsor for this year’s event was PNC Bank.
