Registration for Annual A Monumental Affair Charette Now Open to Participants

September 19, 2010

INDIANAPOLIS – (September 20, 2010) Registration for the full-day Monumental Affair charette to be held on Friday, November 5 is now open. Participants will join area design professionals to re-imagine an iconic Indianapolis location and to create a more livable setting with emphasis on art, nature, and beauty. Registrants may apply online at www.kibi.org/monumental. The A Monumental Affair charette is an ideal setting for creative design professionals who enjoy big idea thinking and appreciate the collaborative process.

In accordance with this year’s theme: It’s About US, the charette will allow participants to partake in an all day charette dedicated to one iconic Indianapolis location. This charette will partner the very best people that Indianapolis has to offer in design, development, construction, engineering, and public art to reinvent a soon to be announced location. The resulting ideas will be presented as part of the program at this year’s A Monumental Affair awards ceremony on November 11, at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. For more information please visit www.kibi.org/monumental.

An exclusive opportunity: the first 25 applicants to apply by 5 p.m., Friday, October 1 for the full-day A Monumental Affair charette, held on November 5, will be considered for participation in the CEOs for Cities National Livability Challenge held in Indianapolis, October 11-13. This event is hosted and sponsored by the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) and Indianapolis Downtown, Inc. Additionally, four participating organizations will be chosen at random to participate in the CEOs for Cities Livability Challenge each day of the October 11-13 conference. For more information on the application process for the A Monumental Affair charette, www.kibi.org/ma_workshop.

“We feel that by integrating the national initiative with a local grouping of placemakers, we will be able to tackle some of the more difficult questions regarding the Indianapolis urban landscape,” said David Forsell, president of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. “The added benefit of bringing together top Indianapolis talent for this charette is the opportunity to create a preferred vision for an important place in Indianapolis. Participants could potentially change the Indy landscape for years to come.”

The A Monumental Affair charette, sponsored by CICF will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 5. The location is currently pending. Check www.kibi.org/monumental for updates.

Tickets for the A Monumental Affair awards dinner are $80 each or $600 for a table of eight. Tickets for the charette are $50. To purchase tickets or tables, contact Laura Fox at lfox@kibi.org or 317-264-7555 ext. 100.

A Monumental Affair is a program of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) in partnership with the Society for Marketing Professional Services Indiana and supported by the City of Indianapolis. Proceeds from the A Monumental Affair charette and awards dinner benefit KIB—a nonprofit that unites people to build community and transform public spaces through aesthetic and environmental improvement.
