KIB Recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists

INDIANAPOLIS – (March 18, 2011) Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) has been recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly America program at the National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C.

KIB was one of 55 businesses honored in a nationwide competition, and received a bronze-level designation for its efforts. Additionally, KIB was one of only two Indiana businesses to win this national award. The competition awarded universities and businesses alike for their efforts to create environments where bicycling can thrive.

The distinction as a Bicycle Friendly Business was given in recognition of KIB’s efforts to promote sustainable bicycling practices among its staff and in the community. These practices include; KIB’s Youth Tree Team GPS Crew makes use of bicycles during the summer months to track trees that have been planted through KIB’s NeighborWoods program, and KIB’s LEED-Gold certified headquarters features expansive bike parking and locker room facilities, for the more than 25 percent of KIB staff that currently bikes to work. KIB also offers Bike Bucket workshops through its partnership with INDYCOG.

“We are extremely proud of the strides we have taken to promote sustainable efforts to increase cycling practices within our own staff,” said David Forsell, president of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. “By implementing creative ways to improve our environment, we are also able to improve our own community.”
