KIB Partners with Local Nurseries to Give Marion County Residents $20 Off of the Purchase of a Tree

September 12, 2010

INDIANAPOLIS – (September 13, 2010) Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) has partnered with local nurseries to re-launch the “My Tree and Me” campaign, an innovative coupon campaign designed to promote and encourage residential tree planting in Indianapolis.

The campaign features a $20 coupon that can be used towards the purchase of a tree at participating tree retailers. Consumers must buy a tree of 1” caliper or larger and must have a Central Indiana address where the tree will be planted. There is no limit to the number of trees homeowners can purchase, but there must be a coupon presented for each tree purchased. Coupons and a complete list of retailers are available at the My Tree and Me website, www.mytreeandme.org, or picked up at participating retailers. The program runs from September 13 until November 19, or until 1,000 tree coupons have been redeemed, whichever comes first. Coupons will be redeemed on a first come, first served basis.

“The opportunity to boost the local economy in a way that has a direct, visible impact on the environment is a unique scenario that KIB is happy to offer to Marion County residents,” said David Forsell, KIB’s president. “Already, nearly 20,000 large trees have been planted in Marion County since 2006; and KIB hopes this number will grow as individuals learn more about the benefit of trees and with the implementation of the My Tree and Me coupon campaign.”

Participants will have the chance to see first hand the impact that their tree has on the community, by visiting www.mytreeandme.org. This site features an interactive tree locator map, which populates as trees are purchased, downloadable maintenance tips, videos on proper planting techniques, and great information on the benefits of trees.

My Tree and Me is part of KIB's ongoing NeighborWoods initiative to increase tree canopy in Marion County by planting 100,000 large trees in Indianapolis by 2017. More than 20,000 trees have already been planted by KIB and the City of Indianapolis in public places, parks, and neighborhoods since the program’s inception in 2006. This program would not be possible without the generous support from donors Mike and Sue Smith.
