Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will host First Friday event to showcase Re-Dome Art Contest artists

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will host First Friday event to showcase Re-Dome Art Contest artists

INDIANAPOLIS – (July 19, 2010) Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) will host artists and art enthusiasts on August 6, for a reception and a gallery showing at KIB, 1029 Fletcher Avenue from 6-9 p.m. The showcase will feature contestants from the Re-Dome Art Contest.

In an effort to build community and display art around Indianapolis, KIB partnered—through a generous grant from the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation—with more than 20 local artists, schools and youth-serving organizations to re-use salvaged material from the former RCA Dome in an artistic manner.

“The chance to meld art with sustainability is an opportunity that we are excited to undertake,” said Andrew Brake, program coordinator with KIB. “This event is one that will surely showcase local artists and organizations in an innovative and artistic way, as well as get the community talking about reusable alternatives.”

Participant entries from the Re-Dome Art Contest will be evaluated from a diverse panel of judges, including: Perry Griffith, Jeremy Efroymson, Frank and Katrina Basile, Wayne Zink, and Carl Pope. Upon judging, prizes will be awarded at the First Friday event, and contestants will be competing in two categories: Youth Art and Professional Art. Youth artist winners will receive a free tree and announcement on the KIB website; professional artist winners will compete for four cash prizes totaling $500.

Artists scheduled to participate in the show include Austin Reavis, Pat Paff, Dante Ventresca, George Elvin, and Lesley Baker. Participants in the youth division include Fall Creek Academy, Children's Museum, and Geist Elementary. In addition to the art show, guests will mingle with the artists over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and enjoy music from Sarah Grain.

The Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealers Association (IDADA) First Friday Art Tour is a free self-guided tour throughout the Indianapolis downtown area. To view a complete map of all First Friday events, visit the IDADA website at www.idada.org/?page_id=57.

This installation will run the entire month of August, and will be available for viewing through the KIB office. For more information on viewing the Re-Dome project, please visit our website at www.kibi.org/news/rca_dome_material_art_contest or call (317)264-7555.
