Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Fans Out over City in Celebration of Earth Day

INDIANAPOLIS -- Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) will have numerous volunteer projects going on simultaneously throughout Indianapolis this weekend in celebration of Earth Day. In addition to projects, KIB staff will be headed to several Earth Day fairs to educate the public about KIB and get people involved with the organization.

The projects and booths will take place from Thursday, April 22 to Sunday, April 25, 2010. Below is a listing of where you can find KIB making an impact in honor of Earth Day 2010.

THURSDAY, APRIL 22, 2010

Early Learning Center at Brook Park, 1PM - 4PMPM
o Brook Park, 5249 David St.
o KIB volunteers will be working with students to plant and trees and finalize the school’s outdoor environmental classroom.

Lilly Earth Day Fair (with Lilly Sustainability Club), 11AM – 1PM
o Eli Lilly and Company Downtown Campus, 639 S Delaware St.

Sustain Indy Earth Day Celebration, 11:30AM - 1:30PM
o City Market, 222 East Market St.

IUPUI Service Learning Luncheon
o KIB will be recognized for its commitment to service-learning and for the thousands of IUPUI students who have been engaged as volunteers.

Indianapolis Museum of Art Planet Indy Lecture, 6:30PM

FRIDAY, APRIL 23, 2010

IPS #114, 9AM – 12PM
o Indianapolis Public School #114, 2251 Sloan Ave.
o KIB volunteers will be working with students plant sunflowers and mulch the school’s tree grove.

SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 2010

Pogue’s Run Conservation Corridor, 9AM – 12PM
o Rural St. and Brookside Parkway South
o Volunteers from St. Paul’s Episcopal, Trinity Episcopal, Marian University, Butler University, IUPUI and many more will be out planting 100+ trees as a part of the neighborhood’s reforestation efforts. KIB is working with the neighborhood to plant 2,012 trees by 2012 in preparation for the Legacy Project on the Near Eastside.

Community Heights Community Garden, 9AM -- 12PM
o IPS #88, near 16th & Arlington
o KIB volunteers with be working with the neighborhood to get garden beds ready for this neighborhood’s new community garden as well as planting fruit and nut trees.

Perry Meridian High School Tree Planting, 9AM – 12PM
o High School, 401 W. Meridian School Rd.
o Indiana Bar Association volunteers will be helping this south side high school’s Environmental Club to plant native fruit-bearing trees on their campus.

Athenaeum Sustainable Landscape, 9AM – 12PM
o Athenaeum Building, 401 East Michigan St.
o KIB volunteers will be planting the north lawn of the Athenaeum building with native plants and shrubs and creating a rain garden on the property.

Crystal Pointe Homeowners Association Tree Planting, 9AM – 12PM
o NE Indianapolis near Carroll Rd. and E. 86th St.
o KIB will be planting 29 trees in this neighborhood who has been working with KIB to green up their community.

Earth Day Indiana Festival, 11AM – 4PM
o White River State Park, 801 W. Washington St.
