INHP and KIB to Give Trees and Workshop to New Homeowners

Indianapolis, IN – Thirty-six Indianapolis families will receive new trees today and tomorrow through a partnership between Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP) and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB). The trees will be distributed at INHP’s Homeownership Center at Glendale (2605 E. 62nd Street, Indianapolis). Those receiving trees will also participate in a special workshop inside the Homeownership Center tomorrow, during which they will learn about the benefits of planting trees and tips for maintaining an environmentally friendly neighborhood.

Families will receive their 6-10’ trees in the parking lot in front of INHP’s Homeownership Center today, Friday, from 4-6 pm or tomorrow, Saturday, from 10am-noon. The workshop takes place Saturday from 9am-10am.

“Partnering with KIB for this project is a wonderful way for INHP to reward the hard work and dedication it takes for our families to complete our programs and become long-term homeowners,” says Moira Carlstedt, INHP President.

“At the same time, these families will be learning more about how they can contribute to an environmentally friendly neighborhood and become even greater assets as good neighbors in their communities.”

All families who completed INHP’s homeownership program and purchased a home within the past three years were invited to receive trees. Those who accepted where then invited to select one of four tree options: Eastern Redbud, Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry, Swamp White Oak, or Sugar Maple.

“Trees are a symbol of hope for many families” says David Forsell, President at KIB. “Not only do they clean our air and water, they provide shade and beauty. Most of all, they provide a sense of pride for new homeowners.”
