Indianapolis man will plant 30 trees in 30 days the month of September

August 31, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS – (August 31, 2011) Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) is partnering with David Feinberg to plant 30 trees in 30 days, in an effort to educate residents about KIB’s NeighborWoods goal. With the support of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Feinberg will plant one tree every day for 30 days during the month of September. Thirty different species of trees that are all native to Indiana have been chosen, and each tree will be a one-inch caliper or larger with a maintenance plan to ensure the longevity of the tree and its contribution to the tree canopy in Indianapolis.

“I have learned through my association with KIB that trees are more than just pretty items that help our air quality. They can have a substantial impact on crime and on the amount of water that eventually ends up in our storm-water and sewer system. During the month of September I am going to plant my trees in various places around the city: at nonprofits, in economically challenged neighborhoods, and with neighborhood groups that are already actively engaged at improving their neighborhood,” says Feinberg.

Some of the locations where Feinberg will plant this September include the Humane Society of Indianapolis (Sept. 2), Indianapolis Museum of Art (Sept. 8) and Binford Boulevard (Sept. 18). Feinberg, a CPA at Crowe Horwath LLP, will plant a tree on Sept. 22 on the Near Eastside as part of his employer’s Indianapolis Day of Service, in conjunction with the Super Bowl Legacy Project and 2,012 trees by 2012.

“Each day as I plant the tree and interact with the organization or neighborhood where the tree is located, I am going to write short blogs for KIB’s website—www.kibi.org/blog. These blogs will cover everything from the people I meet, to the impact the tree will have on its surroundings, to information on the tree species,” says Feinberg.

KIB’s NeighborWoods initiative (www.kibi.org/neighborwoods) has helped to plant more than 27,000 trees in Indianapolis since the program’s announcement nearly five years ago. An urban forestry effort to strategically plant 100,000 trees throughout Marion County by 2017, this program helps to reduce crime, decrease pollution, and raise property value throughout our city, all by planting trees.

For a full listing of the trees that Feinberg will plant, as well as locations and more information about the initiative, please visit www.kibi.org/30_in_30.
