Fifth annual post-holiday recycling event will benefit Keep Indianapolis Beautiful

January 02, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS – (December 21, 2010) For the fifth year in a row, residents will take advantage of the Post-Holiday Recycling Event to recycle and properly dispose of holiday waste and unwanted electronics. Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB), is a partner in the event, sponsored by the Office of Sustainability (SustainIndy), Indy Parks, and the Department of Public Works. The event is Saturday, January 8, 2011 from 10am until 2pm at four Indy park locations.

Park locations for the event are Broad Ripple Park (1550 Broad Ripple Ave.), Ellenberger Park (5301 E. St. Clair St.), Garfield Park (2354 Pagoda Dr. – Arts Center), and Krannert Park (605 S. High School Rd.). At each location, residents will have the opportunity to recycle live Christmas trees, electronics & cell phones, white molded Styrofoam, gift boxes and cardboard boxes. In addition, this year, school and office paper, junk mail, magazines and catalogs will be accepted for recycling by Abitibi/Paper Retriever, with proceeds benefiting KIB. Recycled cell phones will also benefit KIB.

“We could not be more thrilled to continue this post-holiday tradition with the City of Indianapolis, said David Forsell, president of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. “Giving Indy residents an opportunity to properly dispose of these items will not only instill the value of reduce, reuse and recycle, but also benefits KIB and our mission to beautify the city. ”

Indianapolis has many opportunities for recycling in Marion County. To learn more, please visit www.kibi.org/recycle.
