KIB Receives $5,000 Grant for Project Green Schools’ Jonathan Jennings Elementary (IPS #109) Project

INDIANAPOLIS – The Environmental Resources Management (ERM) Foundation of North America has awarded Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) a $5,000 grant in support of its Project Green Schools program. The money will go toward the 2010 creation of an outdoor “classroom” at Jonathan Jennings Elementary School (IPS #109), located on the west side of Indianapolis, near West 38th Street and High School Road.

Funding from the ERM Foundation will enable the transformation of the outdoor environment at Jonathan Jennings Elementary, including the development of a rain garden, a handicapped-accessible walkway, up to 75 Indiana native trees, and several planter box benches.

KIB’s Project Green Schools provides environmental curriculum and hands-on opportunities for students such as tree plantings, creating wildlife habitats and gardens, litter abatement, recycling, and other environmental projects. It is KIB’s hope that providing youth with resources to help foster environmental education will give students pride in their surroundings and lead to a greater sense of investment in the community.
