Planting Trees, Planting People
View a sample of the places that KIB planted trees this year, and the people that planted them!
Shadeland Cloverleaf Tree Planting, 3-21-09
On this day over 100 volunteers helped "tree-up" this barren intersection on the Far East side, adding beauty and an environmental filter to a very high-traffic, high emission area. Mayor Greg Ballard kicked off the event in the morning, and over 100 trees were planted in just a couple of hours! Photos by Amanda Sterger

Neighbors from Springdale have planted trees with KIB in their community for 3 years straight! This time they added nearly 45 trees to their neighborhood. Photos by Mark Sweet.
Jefferson Street Tree Planting, 4-17-09
On this day over 80 volunteers from the Near Eastside Community, the Indianapolis Colts and beyond added beauty to Jefferson Street, a transitional block in need of trees. And did they get them! On this day we planted over 100 trees. It was a community-wide affair, and launched an initiative to plant 2012 trees in the Near Eastside by 2012. The Indianapolis Colts sponsored the project. A significant number of Near Eastside neighbors helped, as well as the Indiana Sports Corporation, The Super Bowl Host Committee and Big Brothers Big Sisters!
Campus Compact Tree Planting, 4-24-09
KIB partnered with Campus Compact to bring together students and faculty from all of the colleges and universities within Indianapolis to plant trees! Volunteers from Martin University, Marian University, IUPUI, Ivy Tech, and Butler University planted nearly 100 trees along Davidson St. downtown, extending the linear arboretum KIB begun a few years ago.
Woodruff Place Tree Planting, 10-10-09
Woodruff Place is passionate about replacing trees that are lost due to old age and disease. This is KIB's fourth planting with this historic downtown neighborhood, and we are always excited to contribute to the beautiful canopy they have maintained in such an urban environment.
E. 86th Street Tree Planting, 10-31-09
KIB and neighbors added significant environmental benefit to this high-traffic corridor by planting beautiful native oaks. It was a Halloween to remember!
