NEIGHBORWOODS APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Important: Please read these guidelines and follow these steps before applying for NeighborWoods trees!

Get acquainted with your neighborhood.

Take a Walk
  • This community tree planting must be located in Marion County. Plan to plant at least 20 trees for your project.
  • Take a walk around your neighborhood or on your block, by yourself or with a group of other neighbors. Notice spaces throughout your community that are calling for trees to be planted.
Meet Your Neighbors
  • Share with neighbors your interest in trees.
  • Form a small group that will help you begin to organize the planting.
  • Ask them to share the ideas with their neighbors – this is very important.

Get in touch with us.

Contact Keep Indianapolis Beautiful
  • Let us know your interest in organizing a neighborhood tree planting. Call Andrew Hart at 264-7555 x110 or e-mail him at ahart@kibi.org.
  • Request FREE TREES door hangers to distribute to neighbors.
Reach Out to Neighbors
  • Have a group or neighbors help you distribute door hangers to residents and businesses.
  • Whenever possible, verbalize the expectation that neighbors and business owners are committed to tree preservation. Tree preservation entails watering each tree with 15 gallons of water each week Spring – Fall for the first three years.
Follow up
  • Follow up with neighbors that requested to be involved. Invite them to participate in your efforts, take part in a tree planting and/or help care for a tree.
  • Compile a list of addresses where trees will be planted. You will need to include this in your NeighborWoods application.

Start the process.

Apply for Trees
  • Apply for a NeighborWoods tree planting! You may apply at anytime, though to be considered for a Spring planting we will need your application by November 1 of the previous year. To be considered for a Fall Planting we will need your application by May 1 of the current year.
  • Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will contact you once we process your request, and we will work with you to plan your tree planting project! Please give Keep Indianapolis Beautiful at least 2 weeks to process your request. At this time, we will work with you and your neighbors to determine tree species selection.
