Join us in celebrating Indianapolis and help us {SEE} the possibilities for the future!
This year's theme, SEE: Society, Economy, Environment, reflects and emerging collective vision for Indianapolis defined by an imaginative and sustainable built and natural environment. It's a vision made possible by the A/E/C community, and dynamic local talent within corporate, philanthropic, public and nonprofit sectors committed to the vitality of Indianapolis.
Presenter Maitreyi Roy, ASLA, Vice President of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, will keynote this event as she reflects on some Indianapolis initiatives through the lens of Philadelphia's research-based successes in sustainable community and economic redevelopment, and the resulting impacts on people, places and the economy.
The Monumental Award, representing the most significant visual and physical enhancement in Marion County, is selected by an impartial jury of community and professional leaders. This is the highest award of distinction and is chosen from the honor award winners in each category.
We recognize the significant achievements in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, engineering and
construction, public art and development as well as honor and encourage those who have contributed to the quality of life through the enhancement and beautification of Marion County’s visual and physical environment.
Awards are presented as a combined program sanctioned by twelve professional organizations.
Each applicant may submit projects for consideration to one or more of the categories. Designations of awards shall be made by each of the category sponsors.
In addition, each category will make recommendations of projects to be considered for the Monumental Award.
The Monumental Award, representing the most significant visual and physical
enhancement in Marion County, will be selected by an impartial jury of industry and community leaders.
Event History
This recognition program began in 1977 through the efforts of the City of Indianapolis, Department of Metropolitan Development and the Commission for Downtown.
Joining this effort later were the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the state chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Society of Interior Designers, the International Interior Design Association, the Indianapolis Coalition for Neighborhood Development and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.
In 1996, the program included a new category for the construction industry.
In 2004, the program added the Engineering Award to create the most inclusive design awards presentation in our city.
In 2005, another new category was added: Public Art. This award seeks to recognize notable public art projects that demonstrate the outstanding professional achievement of artists and how our city can benefit from the increased involvement of artists in the planning of our public spaces.
In 2007, yet another new category was added: Innovative Reuse. This award seeks to recognize projects which demonstrate innovative transformation of vacant or underutilized buildings. Creative restoration of historical building(s) and environmental responsibility are also key judging components. This award continues to support projects where the community benefits and the neighborhood appearance is positively impacted.
