What neighborhood do you live in?
I live in a neighborhood that I affectionately call Clifton on the River, though it has not been technically called that for many years. We are a stone's throw from the Museum of Art, Crown Hill Cemetery and the canal towpath and White River, yet have all of the action and life of an urban neighborhood.
What has been your favorite vacation?
My most memorable trip was definitely backpacking in El Chalten, along the "cordillera", or mountain range that separates Chile from the very southern region of Argentina. During the day you would be hiking through sunny meadows of wildflowers and next to mossy bubbling brooks, and at night sleeping alongside huge glaciers. Looking out over the valleys on one of the hills it seemed you were looking at many different eco-systems at once.
What's your favorite tree or flower?
Liatris is my favorite flower, also known as Gayfeather or Blazing Star. The summer after I graduated from college I spent every day at a Green County flower farm caring for and cutting Liatris for the Saturday Bloomington Farmer's Market. I fell in love with the vibrant purple plumes that literally spike out of a garden or flower bouquet.
What is your favorite place in Indianapolis?
My front porch, especially in the summer. I love getting waves and honks from my neighbors while I am swinging in the hammock, or while I am working in the garden. I also love taking walks from my house to the Museum of Art grounds, which are beautiful and expansive, and stopping by the MLK Dairy Queen for a little Blizzard action or by Hank's for some pecan pie on my way home.
