Keep Indianapolis Beautiful kicks off the Great Indy Cleanup this April with 3 ways to get involved

INDIANAPOLIS – (March 30, 2012) Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) announced today that the Great Indy Cleanup, a partnership with the City of Indianapolis to beautify and strengthen our communities, will kick off on April 7. Large cleanups are planned all over the city in four different quadrants aimed to achieve litter abatement through neighborhood-driven initiatives.

KIB and the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, with support from the Department of Public Works and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Development, are coordinating with neighborhood associations and groups across the City to organize cleanup efforts during the month of April and continuing through October.

“This initiative is about helping to make our neighborhoods cleaner, more attractive places in which to live, work, and play,” said Mayor Greg Ballard. “Thousands of neighbors are dedicating their time to picking up litter, and we hope everyone joins in fostering pride in their community this April.”

There are three ways to participate in the April Great Indy Cleanup:

  1. Coordinate a community cleanup: Visit to find the date of your community cleanup, and complete the required Request Form to receive resources for your community cleanup.
  2. Volunteer: Join a cleanup already in progress as an individual or a group to help a neighborhood with their cleanup. Visit to sign-up.
  3. Pledge to fill a bag with litter: Beginning April 2, visit your neighborhood Marion County Public Library, YMCA, or PNC Bank branch to register for the Every Litter Bit Helpscampaign. You will receive a pair of gloves and a trash bag to help clean up the litter in your neighborhood play or part in the Great Indy Cleanup.

The Great Indy Cleanup is made possible by generous donations from the City of Indianapolis, Covanta Energy, South Side Landfill, Republic Services, Dow AgroSciences, and Kroger. For more information on KIB’s efforts to beautify the city, or to learn how you can help, please visit us
