Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, City of Indianapolis to host Great Indy Cleanup wrap-up event with hundreds of volunteers this Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS – (October 24, 2013) Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) will be working on the Southside of Indianapolis this Saturday with hundreds of volunteers combating illegal dumping in the neighborhoods of Bates-Hendricks and Brookside, with wrap-up events for the Great Indy Cleanup.

A citywide effort to beautify and strengthen our communities, the Great Indy Cleanup is a partnership between KIB and the City of Indianapolis. A wrap-up event is planned for this Saturday at the community pocket park in the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood and at the Paramount School for Excellence. More than 200 volunteers will be in attendance to take part in the one day cleanup, with activities ranging from: invasive removal, building picnic tables, mulching trees, planting perennials, litter cleanups, and park spruce ups.

More than 100 volunteers will meet for breakfast and opening remarks from Mayor Greg Ballard at the Building Blocks pocket park. Volunteers will meet at 8AM for registration and program, and then branch out to work in the pocket park and clean up the neighborhood alleys. Mayor Ballard will greet and address volunteers from 8:30AM to 8:45AM

The Great Indy Cleanup is made possible by generous donations from the City of Indianapolis, Covanta Energy, Dow AgroSciences, Department of Public Works, Kroger, Nestle Waters, Reconnecting to Our Waterways, Republicand South Side Landfill.
