KABOOM PLAYGROUNDS
Partnerships with KaBOOM!
KaBOOM! is a national not-for-profit whose goal is to have a safe place for every kid to play within walking distance of their home. KIB staff members have partnered with KaBOOM! many times in Indianapolis and once in New Orleans. KaBOOM! uses the same community build model as KIB, they provide materials and a project manager while the local community, whether that be a school, apartment complex, church, or whomever, provides the volunteers for planning and executing the playground project.
When building a playground, KaBOOM! adds “side projects” to enhance the playground design. These may include a shade structure, trees, benches, patios, or a number of fun things for the kids to build like directional posts or a mural of the United States painted on pavement. These side projects are the same or similar to many of the features that KIB puts in our Pocket Parks, GreenSchools, and GreenSpace projects, forming a natural partnership between KIB (greenspace projects) and KaBOOM! (playground construction).
