IT Manager/Capgemini and City Councillor/District 19
What neighborhood do you live in?
What is the most inspiring place in Indianapolis?
I will never forget the first time I entered the upper floor of the Indiana War Memorial downtown. It was so spacious and so quiet that it made me immediately come to a halt, sit down, look up, take a deep breath, and in my awestruck state I sat and thanked those who have fought for our county and I focused my thoughts on our freedoms thanks to their sacrifice.
How long have you supported Keep Indianapolis Beautiful?
I’ve been involved with KIB since I first helped organize our neighborhood clean-ups in 2005
Why do you volunteer with KIB?
I love that KIB is an organization that helps residents in so many different ways. Whether you need to beautify the neighborhood with trees, are looking for the best place to recycle/reuse something, want to spruce up the area with a clean-up, or want to work with neighbors to Adopt-a-Block and make it shine, KIB has the answer for you. You rarely see an organization have so many vast options for making the community a better place to live.
What impact do you feel that the work with KIB has on the community?
When people work together to improve their neighborhoods it has such a huge impact on everyone. In today’s world, it is very easy to drive home from work, leave the car, go in the house, and not stop and even say hi to a neighbor. But KIB encourages working with the neighbors on your block and all around you to team up together to improve the area.
What else are you involved in within the community?
Being on the city council, I am continually looking for ways to improve the quality of life for residents, often with changes to city ordinance or helping fund important programs via city resources. I also have been honored to serve on the board of Southeast Neighborhood Development and soon will join the board of Southeast Community Services.
Why would you encourage others to support KIB?
The mission of KIB is very powerful and when you see the positive change you make in your neighborhood by getting involved it is wonderfully rewarding.
If you were describing KIB to a friend, what three words would you use?
Beautification, Teamwork, Environmentalism
