IRVINGTON COMMUNITY MIDDLE SCHOOL

General Overview of the School: Irvington Community Middle School (6th-8th) is set north of the Washington St. on the east side of Arlington St. ICMS is a charter school that serves as a critical anchor in the Irvington community in serving as a vital educational resource, thereby helping to attract greater economic growth to this historic Indianapolis community.

General Overview of the ICMS KIB Club: Led by Andrea Ettenberger, the 7th/8th grade science teacher, the club consists of kids from the 6th-8th grades and will meet weekly to help act as the primary liaison between KIB and ICMS. The KIB Club will also help to maintain the projects, such as watering and weeding.

General Overview of Landscape Design Plan: ICMS has had a landscape plan for several years now developed by a professional landscape architect. The plans include trees, shrubs and perennials, a native garden/habitat creation set for the southwest part of the campus nearest the building, a vegetable garden that needs to be relocated and rain barrels throughout the campus. There is also a plan for an outdoor amphitheatre located on the southeast edge of the school.

What Happened in 2011...

-Planted 7 trees

-Began laying pathway for front of school

What's Happening in 2012...

We'll be planting a few more trees throughout their campus but we will mainly focus on the pathway that will provide a "quad-like" for their front campus. Being a neighborhood school and one that wants to have a strong partnership with their community. This pathway will make the neighbors feel invited and welcome to use the school's campus as a asset to their community. We will also be planting lots of perennials along the pathway that represent their school colors, red and white.

Recent Projects

On March 11th and 13th volunteers from the University of Georgia helped lay the stone pathway and plant perennials along it.
