IPS #109
Address: 6150 Gateway Dr., 46254, Washington Township
School Website: www.109.ips.k12.in.us/
General Overview of the School: The mission at Jonathan Jennings School #109 is to create a safe and caring environment where children are inspired and encouraged to become successful, respectful, literate, and independent citizens. They serve the neighborhood as both a school as well as a playground given their large campus and terrific playground. It really is a traditional “neighborhood” school
General Overview of the KIB Club: Led by 6th grade teacher Bill Starkey, the KIB Club is already in place at IPS #109 since we had worked with them several years ago. They meet twice a month and maintain the current plantings on campus, including watering, weeding and occasionally adding more. Typically, the club attracts nearly 30 students and is always welcoming more.
General Overview of Landscape Design Plan: Located near the Lafayette Square area on the far northwest side of Indianapolis, IPS #109 has a very large campus that needs lots of trees and the students there have proven that they can handle the chores of watering them. The KIB Club has already started researching butterfly gardens so that one can be placed near a window of the school building. There is also some interest in building a fitness course of some sort on the north side of the campus.
Landscape Architect: TBD
