INDIANAPOLIS – (June 10, 2013) Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership, Inc. (INHP) has awarded Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB) a $6,000 grant for support of KIB’s IPL Project GreenSpace program. Funds from this grant will be used to work in partnership with the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood to plan and execute a pocket park and greenspace project—transforming four vacant lots at the Northwest corner of Beecher and Singleton.
As part of INHP’s 25th anniversary of helping Indianapolis residents become and remain long-term, successful homeowners, nearly 50 its employees are volunteering to work side-by-side with KIB employees on June 10 to kick-off the neighborhood project. Volunteers will prep flower beds at the site for a fall planting, as well as weed medians and remove litter in the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood. The City of Indianapolis also proclaimed June 10 as “INHP Day” in recognition of the organization’s silver anniversary.
“A partnership with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful to help transform the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood offers INHP a unique and highly impactful way to engage the community and its residents as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary,” said Moira Carlstedt, president of INHP. “Additionally, INHP could not accomplish its mission without the support of our partners across the public, private and nonprofit sectors in Indianapolis as well as the dedication of families who have the tenacity to make their dream of homeownership a reality.”
INHP will officially celebrate its 25th Anniversary as the city’s nonprofit homeownership and neighborhood resource at its annual Community Breakfast on June 19th, which is co-sponsored by the Lilly Endowment and State Farm. Dr. Thomas Burns, managing director of the Urban Ventures Group, will serve as the keynote speaker. For more information visit: www.inhp.org/news-events/events/CommunityBreak
