INDIANAPOLIS—(May 8, 2012) INDYCOG in partnership with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIB), and the Office of Sustainability will host cyclist for a bike lane tree planting Saturday, May 12. In an effort to ‘green’ the commute of Indianapolis bike riders; as many as 50 trees will be planted on bike lanes along Illinois Street with the help of volunteers.

The event will begin with registration and check-in at the City Market 8:30AM, Saturday. Free vehicle parking is available in the parking lot across the street from the Market—the lot is on the northeast corner of Market Street & Alabama. Bike parking is available outside Indy Bike Hub. Volunteers will then join the IndyCog-led ride to the planting at 19th & Meridian Street.

Once at the planting location Pedal and Park will provide bike racks at MIBOR (1912 N Meridian Street) for volunteers to leave their bikes safely as they dig-in to plant trees, and snacks will be provided by Green Bean Delivery.

With Indianapolis recognized as a “Bicycle-Friendly Community” by the League of American Bicyclists—and more than 200 miles of bike lanes planned for the next 12 years—this event is the perfect way to celebrate community greening, and connectivity.
