HISTORY, FACTS AND STATISTICS

KIB: History, Facts and Statistics

Mission

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. unites people to build community and transform public spaces through aesthetic and environmental improvement.

Vision

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. sees a vibrant city, with every neighborhood landscape thriving and well, and its people empowered, mobilized, and devoted toward that vision. The result: a city defined by strong neighborhoods; inspired places; and a clean, flourishing environment.

History

Founded in 1976 as Indianapolis Clean City, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful changed its name in 1997, to better reflect its efforts in the community. Keep Indianapolis Beautiful is a 501c(3), private, not-for-profit organization, and an award-winning affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB), the national organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and environment in American communities.

Funding

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful is largely funded by donations from people like you!  We rely on individual donations, as well as support from corporations, foundations, civic groups, and a professional service contract with the City of Indianapolis, to keep our programs going.

Management

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful is governed by a 23-member board of directors composed of representatives from the private and public sectors. A full-time president directs a fifteen-member staff.

Volunteers

Volunteers are vital to Keep Indianapolis Beautiful’s projects. In 2008, nearly 45,000 volunteers supported cleanup efforts and revitalized our neighborhoods around the city. These volunteers contributed almost 171,000 hours of service by cleaning up litter, painting houses, planting trees and flowers, and assisting with special projects. Check out our current volunteer opportunities!
