Naturalizing a Pond; Building Community
Location: 6142 Simien Rd., Grey Fox Woods Neighborhood
Project Description: KIB worked with the Grey Fox Woods Homeowners Association to install a native shoreline buffer around one of their retention ponds. This planting will enhance its visual appeal, attract birds and butterflies and eliminate the need for chemical treatments to control algae and submerged weeds. It is our hope that this project will become a showpiece native shoreline buffer. In addition to the buffer planting, the neighborhood installed nine large boulders around the pond to add visual interest and provide platforms for fishing around the lake.
