GREAT INDY CLEANUP

KIB's Great Indy Cleanup Program

KIB's Great Indy Cleanup is a litter program designed to combat heavy litter and debris that has accumulated in public spaces such as streets, alleys, greenspaces and waterways. The 2010 Great Indy Cleanup program runs weekends from April 24th through October 31st.

The Great Indy Cleanup program helps neighborhood and/or community based organizations remove litter and debris from areas in and around their community. Dumpsters are available as well as trash bags and gloves while supplies last. Community groups may sign up for up to two cleanups per year. These are weekend cleanups only and should focus on litter and illegal dumping in streets, alleys and vacant lots.  Please remember, the dumpster provided is not for personal use (cleaning out garages, basements, etc.) or the personal use of volunteers/neighbors.  Disposal of the collected trash is donated by South Side Landfill, and is intended for cleanup of public spaces only. Failure to comply jeopardizes the neighborhood's ability to benefit from these donated resources in the future.

2nd Annual Every Litter Bit Helps Campaign

2009 was the first year for Keep Indianapolis Beautiful's Every Litter Bit Helps campaign - a program to help individuals participate in the annual Great Indy Cleanup kick-off event. Individuals who don't necessarily belong to a community organization can do their part on Saturday, April 17th by filling a bag with litter from their community - joining the thousands of volunteers who will be working together on this day to help keep Indianapolis a beautiful place to live!   Click Here to learn more about how YOU can participate!

Great Indy Butt Out

In 2009 Keep Indianapolis Beautiful announced the first-ever Great Indy Butt Out – a contest that gives high school students a chance to make a difference in their community by collecting cigarette litter. Cardinal Ritter High School and Herron High School were the winners and joined 4 other schools to collect 106 pounds of butts! (That's approximately 300,000 cigarette butts removed from our environment!)

The Great Indy Butt Out will be in the fall this year.  Marion County High Schools interested in joining the 2010 Great Indy Butt Out should contact Tammy Stevens at tstevens@kibi.org or 264-7555, ext. 116.
