Work with others in the community
Are you looking to meet new people? Do you want to participate in a project that has a real impact on your community? KIB volunteers represent all ages and all backgrounds. Each event on the Volunteer Project Calendar has a number of volunteers needed to complete the project. Volunteers may work in large groups of 25-50 people or simply join 1-2 KIB staff in the field to water trees. Whatever you're looking for, KIB has a project that needs your help!

Help keep Indianapolis clean and beautiful
In 2011, volunteers helped KIB collect 2,775,260 pounds of litter and recycle 12,938,000 pounds of material! Volunteers also participated in the Great Indy Cleanup, which provides resources for individuals to clean up their neighborhoods. KIB will be conducting the first ever Great Indy Cleanup in October 2012. Adopt-A-Block is another volunteer program that provides tools and resources for individuals to keep their own neighborhood block clean. In addition, volunteers can sign up for individual volunteer opportunities through the Volunteer Project Calendar and take part in the construction of pocket parks or greenspace projects.
Knowledge and expertise in trees
After volunteering with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, volunteers are well-informed in proper tree care, the benefits of mulching trees, and the amount of water a tree needs to thrive. All volunteer projects are led by trained staff and volunteers are given instruction before the event. In addition to volunteer events, KIB also holds monthly workshops on topics such as greening your home, which provide valuable information for those looking to make their homes more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. KIB volunteers are provided with many different projects and opportunities to impact their community including mulching and watering trees and building pocket parks. For volunteers looking for something more involved and willing to participate in training, KIB is now offering Tree Tenders! Tree Tenders is a program designed for volunteers who have a passion for trees and would like to expand their tree knowledge by leading tree plantings and managing volunteer projects. For more information on the Tree Tenders program click here.
Improve the local environment and work outside
Trees provide communities with clean air, clean water, improve our well-being, and keep energy costs low. For more information on the benefit of trees to the community and how critical they are to the local environment, check out our NeighborWoods page. Volunteers work all over the Indianapolis area transforming vacant lots into pocket parks, planting trees along roads, and picking up litter. All projects are completed rain or shine and KIB provides all the tools you need at the project site. So all you need to do is bring a positive attitude!

Meet like-minded individuals
Are you interested in creating a better place to work, live, and play? Do you have pride in your city? KIB volunteers have a passion for improving their community and the environment. Volunteers interact with all kinds of people whether it be at a project site or the annual volunteer cookout held at KIB. We also have opportunities for young professionals to get together through happy hour weedings at the KIB offices, evening workshops, and meetings with SOLAR. SOLAR is KIB's young professional group composed of a member panel and others who meet regularly to participate in special volunteer projects and events for young professionals in Indianapolis.
Green networking
Are you interested in working alongside co-workers, clients, friends, and family in a tree planting project? KIB partners with corporations and individuals to create meaningful projects that impact the community and improve the environment. Employers interested in coordinating a day of service or finding an event appropriate for their company should check out the corporate partnership page for more information.
