Call for Public Art: Fletcher Place Greenspace

The Arts Council of Indianapolis, in partnership with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) is requesting proposals from artists or artist teams who are interested in creating outdoor public artwork.  This RFP is an open call to experienced public artists living in Indiana.

KIB’s IPL Project GreenSpace is a grassroots driven effort that helps transform vacant lots and underused spaces into natural, beautiful and functional pocket parks and greenspaces for a neighborhood.  As part of this beautification initiative, public art will be incorporated into Fletcher Place near the I-65 off-ramp.  The Fletcher Avenue off-ramp is an overlooked gateway into the city and downtown neighborhoods for travelers from the north. The Fletcher Avenue exit sets the tone for how visitors are welcomed into key businesses and downtown attractions including KIB, Eli Lilly, Anthem, Indiana Farm Bureau, Lucas Oil Stadium, Bankers Life Fieldhouse, CityWay, Fountain Square and Fletcher Place.

Despite being a historic neighborhood in its own right, Fletcher Place is often mistakenly referred to as Fountain Square or North Fountain Square.  The neighborhood envisions an artwork near end of the I-65 off-ramp that will serve as a visual indicator that Fletcher Place is not just a passageway to surrounding areas. It should evoke a modern take on this historic community and aid in solidifying the neighborhood’s identity.  The proposed artwork should be a timeless piece that relates to the heritage and environment of Fletcher Place neighborhood.
