The Places Outside of Indy That Inspire Me
I'm not the most discriminating guy. I find inspiration just about everywhere I travel, or where I walk.
Three places come to mind for me today that I find inspiring.
Denver, CO. Talk about art, nature and beauty! Denver's values are evident as you walk through its downtown. The big, two-story bear looking into its convention center is an icon for the value the community puts toward its artistic life. Downtown is graced with plantings, mass transit, and interesting neighborhoods, the latter just self conscious enough to delight resident and visitor alike. And, just twenty minutes from town by car, or a look from an office window, the Rockies and national parks are accessible, beckoning you to come and explore!
Sedona, AZ. The red rocks are stunning. I'll never forget a walk up to one of the plateaus, after dark, with Shannon and friends. Shannon sang Amazing Grace under the millions of stars available to us that night. I guess Shannon was the key to the arts side of an art, nature and beauty experience there.
Florence, Italy. Art, beauty, and nature define this city, although you have to think through the nature piece just a bit… The nature can be found in a linear walking and cycling park that encircles the city, inviting walkers and bikers to enjoy gorgeous sycamores lining the route. And of course, Florence is defined by art, and you can find it in the most magnificent places, and the most common, as teeny reliefs, tiles and frescos make every street corner a memorable experience.
