Should I Stay or Should I Go

Submitted November 02, 2009 by Renee Sweany | 1 comment

When I graduated from college 12 years ago, I had my heart set on experiencing a new city. I had done an internship in Portland, OR and was just sure I'd find my way there. I mean, Indy is great, but I've been there, done that.

I've been around the block, career-wise. I've changed jobs enough times that I could have easily left town. I even turned down a job opportunity in Portland! And I have no regrets.

In 12 years, I have created a network. I bought a house. I have found more fun things to do than I have time. I have joined clubs, like SOLAR, KIB's young professionals group. I have favorite restaurants. I have invested myself in the community by volunteering to plant daffodils along the highway with KIB. I have a favorite route where I like to walk my dog. I am associated with a respectable group of people that serve as KIB's board.

Who knows, maybe someday life will take me down a different path. But for now, I know I've made the right choices. I don't feel like I've let myself down by not exploring a different city. Rather, I feel like I'm home, and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful has been a big part of that.

Sweany, tell us more. What is so good about Indy? Are you sure it's not better in Portland, OR. Have you been do Shades State Park yet?
