Day 23: What nut is round on the ends and high in the middle?

An O"HI"O Buckeye is a nut that is roundon the ends and "HI" in the middle! Growing up in Columbus, Ohio I have always loved these trees and the nuts that go with them. I have a Buckeye Necklace and may found fall memories of picking the nuts off of trees and the ground. When you get a new one right out of the husk they have a beautiful glean (though the glean does wear off when your QB throws an interception and you wing the nut across the room like the interception was your fault).
The Ohio Buckeye Tree (Aesculus glabra) that I put in the ground today didn't look like that should be plantd. It had very few leaves left. That is because this is a tree that likes to get to the party early (blooms early in the Spring), but can never make it to the end of the party (one of the first to drop its leaves in the fall) . I'm sure I could fit another sports analogy into here, but 1 per Blog needs to be my maximum.
The Buckeye Tree traveled with me to Little Flower this morning for my third and final planting in this neighborhood. Little Flower is one of the eatern most neighborhoods in NESCONESCO (Neareastside Community Organization. As I started to plant the tree this morning I looked around at the houses and landscaping. This could have very well been Broad Ripple (BR). The house styles and lots looked very similar to me. I think it is also about the same distance from downtown. The big difference is Little Flower doesn't have a major university, a high volume of trend shops, eateries and waterholes. Though, in full disclosure, I saw a hotdog vendor on Emerson everyday and he always had business. I had to use all my willpower to not stop to have a dog (street vendor hot dogs are my favorites!). My 3 trees have just been a small part of the overall beautification of the neighborhood.
The house where I was planting the tree today only had a 4 foot wide stretch of grass between the road and sidewalk. this was one of the houses where i had my initial permit filed with the city denied because of the 4 foot issue. So to compensate, I planted the tree in the homeowners property. I think i want to buy this house one day, and no not just because it has a Buckeye Tree. I ended up digging my hole about 1 foot too deep and about 1 foot wider than I needed. I did this without even realizing it until I had to measure the hole. The whole time i was digging I didn't find any clay, rocks, bricks, cobblestone, or concrete. Just beautiful black soft top soild. This house has the greatest land for planting items. I just couldn't believe it. With the great soli around it, this tree should absolutely thrive!
